Concept NOCTRA

Glass, brass and  light that sets the mood.

NOCTRA is a concept piece, not client work. It shows how a calm, premium brand mood can be developed for a product made of glass and brass, before the product physically exists.

NOCTRA Duftdiffusor, CGI Rendering
01The idea

A product sold through atmosphere.

A fragrance diffuser is hard to show through function. What it does is invisible. What sells it is the mood it creates in a room.

So the scene was not built as a studio setup but as an environment with daylight, plants and moving shadows. The product sits inside it rather than cut out in front of it.

02Material

The work sits in the glass.

Glass is awkward to render because it only works through whatever sits behind it. Refraction, wall thickness, the edge where it meets the brass and the way light travels through the liquid decide whether the product reads as premium or as plastic.

The brushed brass had to stay restrained in return. Too much shine tips straight into cheap, too little and it reads as painted metal.

03Light

Shadow as the second subject.

The foliage in the foreground is not decoration, it is the actual lighting tool. It breaks the light into irregular patches and gives the scene a restlessness a pure studio setup would never have.

A short moving version came out of the same scene, where only light and vapour change.

04What this is for

A visual world, before the product exists.

Mood before function

For products whose benefit cannot be shown, atmosphere carries the communication.

Environment instead of cut-out

A built scene can be relit as often as needed, a photograph cannot.

Still and motion from one scene

The same scene delivers frames and a short moving version.

Concept work as evidence

Pieces like this show range without using client material.

Next step

If you need a visual world before the product exists.

When samples, studio or photo production are not available yet, the visual direction can be developed up front in 3D. It stays usable afterwards, because the scene remains.
